About Javor Bračić

The Croatian pianist Javor Bračić has won first prizes at the international piano competitions Luigia Stramesi and Citta’ di Minerbio in Italy, Les Rencontres des Jeunes Pianistes in Belgium, as well as Zlatko Grgošević in Croatia. He was invited to perform at conferences of the European Piano Teachers’ Association in Norway and Hungary, and many festivals such as the International Festival Music, Youth, Hope in Russia, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in Croatia, the Salzburg Summer Academy, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Music Academy of the West in California, and the Beijing International Music Festival & Academy.

Since his arrival in the USA in 2009, Javor has performed at the Metropolitan Museum, the New York Historical Society, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and has given recitals at Steinway Hall, Austrian Cultural Forum, and various other venues in New York City and surroundings. His performance was aired on WQXR in the McGraw Hill Young Artists Showcase. In 2011 he released a CD album Tribute to Haydn with works written by and dedicated to Joseph Haydn. Most recently, he became part of the association New York Concert Artists by winning the Carnegie Recital Debut audition. As a member of NYCA, he performed at the Evenings of Piano Concerti under maestro Eduard Zilberkant.

One of Javor’s greatest passions is giving lecture-recitals, involving new and young audiences, and bringing music to those unable to visit concert halls. He has given a series of concerts at hospitals and nursing homes in Austria through the humanitarian organization Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now. During his stay at the International House New York, he has given a series of lecture-recitals aimed at promoting the interest and passion for classical music among young people. He has continued giving lecture-recitals under the title The Art of Listening.

Javor was born in 1985 in Zagreb, Croatia, where he took lessons from Jelica Kuzmin at the Pavao Markovac Music School. In 2003, he entered the University of Mozarteum Salzburg, in the class of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. In 2009, Javor was admitted to Mannes College of Music in New York under full scholarship to study with Pavlina Dokovska, where he received another Master’s Degree and a Professional Studies Diploma. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Graduate Center Fellowship to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the City University of New York, studying with Ursula Oppens and Richard Goode.

As a participant of international master classes, Javor had the honor of learning from such teachers and artists as Dag Achatz, Peter Eicher, Alberto Portugheis, Diane Andersen, Richard Goode, Eteri Andjaparidze and Jerome Lowenthal. As a chamber musician, he was coached by Thomas Riebl, Irena Grafenauer, Imre Rohmann, Cordelia Höfer-Teutsch, Laurie Smukler and Daniel Panner, as well as members of the Hagen Quartet and the Orion Quartet.
